Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 Review

Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 Review

G'day legends, it's Power Nomad here—writing this with a cold one in hand after a cracking trip through the Canterbury high country and a few nights boondocking on the West Coast.

I've hauled every type of cooler and 12V fridge across Aussie red dirt and NZ gravel roads, dealing with melting ice messes, dead batteries, and warm beers more times than I care to count. So when the Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 landed in my setup, I was keen to see if this battery-powered electric cooler could actually change the game for us nomads. Spoiler: it mostly delivers.

First Impressions: Built Like It Belongs on the Track

I tested the 40L version (they also do 23L and a big 58L dual-zone). At around 50-56 lbs (23-25kg) loaded with one battery, it's hefty but the big smooth wheels and telescoping suitcase-style handle make it surprisingly easy to roll over grass, gravel, and even some beach sand. The build is rugged—durable shell, IPX3 splash resistance, and it feels like it can handle the knocks of vanlife and overlanding.

The AU/NZ version works seamlessly with our 230V power and 12V systems. It looks premium, modern, and way less "camping gear" than some clunky old fridges. Bonus: the pull-out handle doubles as a sturdy prep table that holds decent weight—handy for slicing salami or mixing a brew at camp.

The Heart: True Fridge/Freezer Power Without Ice

Capacity: 40L (about 42 quarts) — fits plenty for a couple or small crew: 60+ cans, or a good mix of fresh food, frozen meat, and drinks. The 58L dual-zone is ace if you want separate fridge and freezer sections.

Temperature Range: -20°C to 20°C (-4°F to 68°F). Proper freezer mode for ice cream or long-term meat storage, or just chill mode for beers and groceries.

Cooling Tech: FrostFlow air cooling gives even temps with no hot spots. It drops from room temp (25°C) to 0°C in about 15 minutes — seriously quick.

Battery: Comes with one removable 288Wh LFP battery (safe, long-life chemistry). Slot for a second one. At typical fridge temps (around 4°C), expect up to 52 hours on one battery and over 100 hours / 4+ days with two, depending on ambient heat and mode. That's game-changing for multi-day remote camps.

It has three modes: Max for rapid pull-down, Smart for balance, and Eco for maximum runtime. Interior LED lighting is a nice touch.

Power & Charging: Solar-Ready Nomad Friendly

Runs off the internal battery, 12V car socket, 230V wall, or USB-C.

Solar input up to 100W — pairs nicely with a portable panel for true off-grid freedom.

The battery itself can charge your phones/devices via 60W USB-C and USB-A ports. Handy bonus power bank.

In real NZ/AU conditions (cooler nights helping a lot), it sips power efficiently compared to many 12V fridges I've tested. Pair it with one of my power stations (like the Delta or SOLIX F2000) and you've got near-endless runtime.

Smart Features & App

Wi-Fi + Bluetooth app control is excellent — set temps, monitor from your swag, get alerts if something's up, and update firmware. Touchscreen on the unit is clear and easy. It's relatively quiet, especially in Eco mode.

Real-World Nomad Testing

I've run this on multi-day trips: keeping meat frozen, veggies crisp, and drinks ice-cold through hot days and frosty nights. No more daily ice runs or watery messes. The efficiency is impressive — one of the better ones I've tested for power draw.

Wheels and handle make repositioning easy when you're chasing shade. The dual battery setup gives real peace of mind on longer tracks where you might not see power for days. Food safety is sorted with consistent temps.

The Downsides (Keeping It Real)

Weight: Empty + battery is no lightweight. Fine for vehicle-based camping, tougher for hiking or small boats.

Price: Premium — you're paying for the battery tech, fast cooling, and convenience over a basic passive cooler.

Solar Input: Only 100W max, so not a power-hungry beast but slower recharge on cloudy days.

Size: The 40L is great for couples/small groups; bigger crews might want the 58L.

Power Nomad Verdict: 9.0/10

The Anker SOLIX EverFrost 2 is a proper step up for vanlifers, overlanders, and weekend warriors who are sick of ice. It combines solid cooling performance, excellent battery life, smart features, and thoughtful design that actually works in the real world.

It's not the absolute lightest or cheapest option out there, but the convenience of ditching ice forever, solar compatibility, and multi-day runtime make it worth it for serious nomads. Highly recommended if you're already running a power station setup — this pairs beautifully with Anker's SOLIX ecosystem or any good portable power.

Grab one (plus the extra battery), load it up, and get out there. Cold drinks at the end of a dusty day never get old.

Stay charged, stay cool, stay free.

Power Nomad ✌️
